Jim Stovall teaches journalism at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

What is his educational background?

He has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Tennessee, which he received in 1970. He has a master's degree in government from American University in Washington, D.C. (1973) and a doctorate in mass communications from the University of Tennessee (1978).

Where did he grow up?

Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated from Maplewood High School in 1966.

What is his military service?

He served four years on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1974.

Where has he taught journalism?

University of Alabama (1978-2003), where he is now professor emeritus; Emory & Henry College (2003-2006); University of Tennessee (2006 to present).
