Workshop directors:
- Jim Stovall is Edward J. Meeman Distinguished Professor of Journalism at the University of Tennessee. He was a professor of journalism for 25 years at the University of Alabama and for three years at Emory & Henry College before coming to UT in 2006. He is the author of numerous books and articles, including Writing for the Mass Media; Journalism: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How; and Web Journalism: Practice and Promise of a New Medium. He is the creator of the web site JPROF.com.
- Lisa Gary is a lecturer in the School of Journalism and Electronic Media at the University of Tennessee. She has worked as a newspaper writer, editor and publisher and has managed print and online magazine projects. She earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in communication and has written extensively about education and science related to food, fiber and natural resources. Recent work includes articles for Tennessee Land, Life and Science magazine. At UT, she teaches writing courses for the School of Journalism and Electronic Media as well as the introductory survey course for the College of Communication and Information. She was named outstanding lecturer for the college in 2005 and 2009.
- Allyson DeVito is a doctoral student in the College of Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee. She has worked in broadcast and print journalism as well as media relations. DeVito earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Florida and worked at WUFT-FM—a National Public Radio affiliate. At UT, she teaches an introduction to media writing course and an electronic news writing and reporting class. She also serves as the assistant faculty adviser to The Tennessee Journalist.
- Darrell Blair is a doctoral student in the College of Coimmunication and Information at the University of Tennessee. Blair worked as a sports writer, columnist and copy editor for nearly 10 years in newspapers and was a guest on several radio shows across the United States before returning to academia. He earned a B.A. in technical journalism from Colorado State University and an M.A. in communication from the University of Northern Colorado. Blair covered the Denver Broncos for eight seasons, including the team's victories in Super Bowls XXXII and XXXIII, and the Colorado Avalanche for five seasons, including its 2001 Stanley Cup Final victory. In addition to The (Fort Collins) Coloradoan, Blair's work has been published by USA Today, Rocky Mountain News, Dallas Morning News, Arizona Republic, Florida Today, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Wichita Eagle, The (Grand Junction) Daily Sentinel, The Greeley Tribune, Loveland Reporter-Herald and Norwich (Conn.) Bulletin.
