Test 2
This exam constitutes Test 2 for JEM 422 for the Fall 2007 semester.
You are to answer question 1. Then you should answer two of questions 2-5. Each of your three answers should
- be 500 to 1,000 words in length
- demonstrate that you understand the question in term of principles of web journalism and managing news webs that we have discussed in this course
- demonstrate that you have read the relevant readings and assignments (you may want to go beyond those in referring to other documents and articles for your answer)
- be coherent, well written and error-free.
The deadline for your answers is noon on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007.
Everyone should answer this question:
1. What does it take to be a good web journalist? What are the skills one should have? Does the web journalist have to think differently from a broadcast or print journalist?
Answer two of the following four questions:
2. What part does blogging have in the structure and operation of a news web site? What does blogging represent that is new to journalism?
3. Why is search engine optimization (SEO) so important to news web sites? What effect has it had on the presentation of the news?
4. Why is measuring a web audience so hard when, at first glance, it seems to easy? What are the major issues involved.
5. Many news organizations believe that the idea of social networking is important to the development of web journalism, but they are having a hard time figuring it out. As a journalism major and a social networker, what would you tell them?
