Attendance policy

Regular, active and engaged attendance is an important part of this course and is the key to your success. Students who do not attend regularly do not pass the course.

What 's the rule?

Students who miss four classes for any reason are no longer considered part of the course. Their attendance from that point on will not be noted. Their work will not be graded.

That means I have three cuts, and it won't hurt me, right?

Wrong. You do not have any cuts. Any absence for whatever reason means that you will miss something. That may, in turn, affect your grade. I cannot promise that it won't.

What if I'm sick?  Should I still try to attend class?

No. Doing so might damage your health and it might spread what you have to other students. If you are sick, do not come to class.

What if I'm late?

If you come to class after the roll is called, you will be counted as absent.

What about absences because of college functions, such as sports events or choir tours?

These absences count as part of the three absences (although there is some room for negotiation here). If these activities are going to result in excessive absences, you might want to consider dropping the activity or taking this course another semester.

Students have the responsibility of actively engaging in their own education. You are expected to do more than sit back and listen to a professor. You are to come to class having read and studied material assigned to you and ready to ask questions and engage in discussion about it. This is what is expected of you and the way in which you will get the most from your time on campus.

I have read and understand the syllabus and the attendance policies for this course.
